Many fish farm owners have done the math: Previously, buying extruded feed from small workshops cost 3,000 yuan per ton, and there was a lot of feed waste—it took 10 tons of feed to grow just 1 ton of fish. Switching to feed produced on large-scale production lines costs 2,800 yuan per ton, and only 8 tons of feed are needed to grow 1 ton of fish, saving tens of thousands of yuan a year. This is due to the cost control capabilities of large-scale production lines. Below, we'll discuss in detail where these savings occur.
This is reflected in three aspects
First, it improves raw material utilization and reduces waste costs. Small equipment doesn't grind materials finely or mix them evenly, resulting in underutilization of starch and protein in the raw materials and significant waste of small pieces. Large-scale fish meal extruder lines use ultra-fine grinders to grind raw materials to below 0.8 mm, their dual-shaft mixers achieve 98% uniformity, and the high temperature and pressure of the extruder increases starch gelatinization from 70% to 90%, ensuring that almost all nutrients in the raw materials are absorbed by the animals. For example, using the same 1 ton of corn and soybean meal, small equipment can produce 0.85 tons of qualified feed, while a large-scale production line can produce 0.95 tons, increasing raw material utilization by 11% and saving 200 yuan per ton of feed in raw material costs.
Second, it reduces energy consumption and lowers energy costs. Small-scale equipment has inefficient motors and heating systems, consuming 150 kWh of electricity to produce 1 ton of feed. Large-scale fish feed extruder lines use high-efficiency, energy-saving motors (consuming 30% less energy than small-scale equipment) and waste heat recovery systems, using the waste heat from the extruder to heat the raw materials, consuming only 90 kWh to produce 1 ton of feed, saving 60 yuan in electricity costs per ton (at 1 yuan/kWh). For example, a feed mill producing 10,000 tons of feed annually would consume 1.5 million kWh with small-scale equipment, but only 900,000 kWh with a large-scale production line, saving 600,000 yuan in electricity costs annually.
Third, it reduces labor and subsequent farming costs. Large-scale pet meal production lines require less manpower; one person can operate one line, eight fewer than with small-scale equipment. With each person earning 5,000 yuan per month, this saves 480,000 yuan in labor costs annually. Furthermore, the production line provides stable feed quality, resulting in better animal digestion, fewer illnesses, and reduced medication costs for the farm. For example, after using large-scale production line feed, a pig farm saw its enteritis incidence rate drop from 15% to 3%, and the cost of medication per ton of feed decrease from 50 yuan to 20 yuan. Raising 10,000 pigs a year, this translates to savings of 300,000 yuan in medication costs. In short, large-scale production lines can save businesses a significant amount of money from production to raising.
